Locus Technologies founder Neno Duplan’s background as entrepreneur, environmental information management pioneer, and senior executive in environmental business, provides a well-rounded foundation for leadership. Dr. Duplan brings more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive in the application of computer science to the environmental industry. As founder, president, and CEO of San Francisco area based Locus Technologies, he developed extensive expertise in the application of advanced Internet technologies and wireless sensing to environmental information management. Dr. Duplan pioneered the application of an Internet based on-demand computing model for data management in the environmental industry. Dr. Duplan is the author of more than 30 technical papers on the use of technologies in the environmental industry. As a research associate at Carnegie Mellon in the early eighties, he developed the first prototype system for environmental data management and display using microcomputers. This early work led to the development of numerous database management systems at some of the nation’s largest contaminated sites, and ultimately to the formation of Locus Technologies in 1997. Locus Technologies is now the world leader in managing on-demand environmental information.

California. California is now heading into its fourth year of record-breaking drought, with no water relief in sight. High temperatures, little precipitation, and historically low snowpack have left the state with dwindling water reserves. The situation is so bad, as NASA scientist Jay Famiglietti wrote in an LA Times op-ed last week, that California has only […]
Have you heard of the Blue Tech market? Blue, as in blue water, is an emerging sector, with its roots coming from European entrepreneurs, that focus on developing leading edge products to ensure clean water. I took a deeper dive into the new area and found a lot of interesting products and solutions such as miniature sensors […]
I recently had a discussion with the Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) on challenges companies face when selecting EHS and Sustainability management software. Environmental managers have to consider many things at this time of rapid technological change. The solution that was considered an industry standard or good fit just two years ago may not be the right […]
In just three days, Chinese documentary film “Under the Dome” generated 136 million views on the Chinese government Tencent video portal and sparked vibrant discussions of the country’s dense and devastating pollution problems, specifically health issues relating to smog. The huge online response illustrates perhaps indicates greater official tolerance for public discussion of the country’s […]
Have you heard of “halogenated hydrocarbons”? It is a group of chemicals containing elements that when consumed by humans, it can damage the nervous system and your liver. Normally, these compounds are not on your daily menu. But studies suggest these elements are appearing in water as by the reuse of fracking wastewater which ironically has […]
Our new customer, San Jose Water Company, is deploying our Locus EIM and Locus Mobile solutions to consolidate and manage its water sampling and environmental compliance data. The keyword for SJWC is “consolidate”. San Jose Water’s challenge was to consolidate its 12+ data silos into one comprehensive solution with the capabilities to provide a tighter, more integrated system. […]
As an environmental software and services company, we work closely with companies that need to follow Federal, State and Local compliance mandates to ensure the status quo of the environment. One market segment that always amazes me is drinking water. Every single day, public water systems test your tap water. Everyday single day, water is collected, […]
Environment challenge: Use a cleaner resource without environmental impact. The reality, even good environmental intentions produce by-products and/or have risk than need to be monitored. Check out this insightful article about natural gas. Fact: Natural gas now produces 27 percent of the electricity generated in the United States, and the percentage is rising. Natural gas is cleaner […]
The recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) unleashed a plethora of new products to improve the daily lives of consumers. One product that caught my environmental eye was the Hewlett-Packard HP Zvr. ZDNet describes the new hologram-based screen as a step toward “true holographic viewing”. The reporter, Larry Dignan, goes on to say “a test drive […]
