Locus Environmental Software

Complete Environmental Management Solutions On-Line and On-Demand

Locus offers the most comprehensive selection of solutions for managing environmental information for single or enterprise applications. Locus solutions are delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS) via an advanced collaborative platform allowing customers to configure their applications to meet their current and emerging environmental management needs. Locus provides management solutions for greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, corporate social reporting, sustainability, analytical and geologic environmental data, and environmental compliance. Locus has been offering environmental SaaS applications since 1999, and is the industry leader in providing innovative, flexible and cost effective solutions that meet the changing environmental regulatory landscape in the US and Europe.

Locus’ ePortal provides the platform and the framework for delivery of various modular software solutions, designed to work alone or together. All modules are accessed through a Single Sign On (SSO). Locus’ ePortal includes onboard mapping with Google maps, site information management, enterprise dashboards, task tracking, and a powerful Content Management System (CMS) for information storage and collaboration. To the base product customers can add environmental data management, environmental health and safety indicators, GHG tracking, sustainability indicator tracking, and asset tracking. Each module can operate alone or integrate with the portal to provide rich business analytics and boardroom ready charts and tables.

As the leader in on-demand environmental information management, it's no wonder that Locus Technologies is already helping organizations such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, Honeywell, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, American Chemistry Council, and ALSTOM, in an "environmentally green" way.

Helping Companies Become Environmentally Responsible

We call it "green on demand".

The broadening reach of environmental compliance and attention to global climate change is driving many companies worldwide to assess, report, and repair environmental risks and impacts throughout their supply networks. Environmental issues are no longer considered a short-term problem and a company's commitment to sustainable operations has become a corporate necessity. To effectively manage environmental compliance, assessment, and reporting, the data have to be available, accurate, verifiable, and auditable. This requires systems that can manage, track, and report the wide range of environmental data and information associated with business operations. These systems need to be able to manage data for decades in a flexible framework that adapts to new and emerging requirements and increasingly sophisticated monitoring tools. Locus' systems are designed to meet these needs using robust online databases and powerful reporting and analytical tools, designed to grow, adapt, and change as new sources of information arise.

Technology Overview

Locus’ technology has evolved over the years and today is an aggregation of in-house-developed databases, off-the-shelf software products, third-party web applications integrated through API, and integration tools. Locus developed a Software as a Service (SaaS) suite, where all of Locus' existing, and future, applications are, or will be, integrated through Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

SaaS is a software application delivery model where a software vendor develops a native web software application and hosts and operates (either independently or through a third-party) the application for use by its customers over the internet. Customers do not pay for owning the software itself but, rather, for using it. Locus has been offering its SaaS model for the environmental industry since 1999 and is the most experienced vendor in this space. SaaS is quickly gaining traction with sophisticated buyers that recognize the inherent cost-effectiveness of the delivery model along with the newer development tools that provide customization features once found only in expensive custom developed solutions. Recent economic events have also supported SaaS delivery as corporations are forced to do more with less.

The platform is a web portal that is a general delivery point for applications and services that are accessed from a web browser through an SSO. Portals allow applications and services from different sources (internal or external) to be brought together into a seamless user experience. This is exactly the technology needed to address the complex data sources involved in environmental reporting, which can include such diverse inputs as employee accident rates, water and electricity usage, continuous air monitoring summations, and discrete groundwater well sampling analytical laboratory results. A portal is the management solution to this complex problem - how to manage and organize numerous specialized data sources and the volumes of data and information collected and used over many different reporting requirements.

Locus ePortal

Locus’ ePortal provides a single platform from which various services and applications, such as analytical data management (EIM), document management (eLibrary), site information management (eSite), environmental and labor indicators (eEHS), and compliance task tracking (eTask) are offered. Customers pay subscription fees based on the applications they want to access and the amount of information stored on Locus’ servers. The customer’s data and Locus’ applications are hosted on Locus’ servers. Customers and their consultants simply log in to the web to access information or process transactions. The portal also includes the capability of hooking in other applications from sources outside Locus’ servers to provide access to a broad range of products and services from specialty vendors.
